Situated in the immediate vicinity of the well-known Sree Rama Temple on the western coast of Thrissur district, Sree Rama Government Polytechnic College, Thriprayar, established in 1958, is one of the major Polytechnic Colleges in Kerala. It offers Diploma courses in Mechanical, Civil, Electronics, Electrical and Computer Engineering branches.

            Thrissur is considered as one of the socially and educationally forward districts in the state of Kerala, with a large number of educational institutions especially in the area of science and technology. The Polytechnic  has played and continues to play a prominent  role in improving the educational status of the whole district by providing quality technical education to the community. A sub centre of Centre for Continuing Education and Community Polytechnic Scheme are also functioning in this Institution for imparting the technical awareness to the rural community and thereby bringing them into the mainstream of the society. It also enables them to explore self-employment opportunities.

            Our institution is one among the two institutions in the state which has the PWD scheme which provides education for the differently abled students. Such differently abled students have got placements in the telecom companies and other PSUs.

            The institution has a very strong and admirably proactive  alumni association. The alumni members are participating and cooperating in various activities of the institution. The alumni of the institute meet every three years.Many Co-curricular activities such as NCC and NSS are well functioning in this institution.

            Sree Rama Government Polytechnic College provides high quality equitable and accessible training and education to contribute to the economic and social development of the society. Specifically, it serves the human needs of the Industry, Business and the society through post - secondary, continuing and non formal education and training programmes that respond to rapid technological and social changes.
